Reasons to become a “jewelry type of guy”

Every time Kris Humphries, newlywed husband of Kim Kardashian, fails to sport his black wedding band, rumors of a breakup start to fly. The ring is usually firmly placed on his left hand at special occasions, but for everyday functions such as moving out of their New York hotel for a return to L. A., he seldom wears his wedding ring.

It’s not because the ring is uncomfortable, or anything less than a luxurious exclusive and unique design. It seems that he just isn’t a jewelry type of guy. Some men dislike wearing any kind of adornment, especially on their fingers. Since the traditional extent of their every day jewelry is usually a watch, many men formerly did not develop the habit of ring wearing. Remember, it was not until WWII that it became common for wedding rings to be mass produced and worn by men.

What most men sported was a watch. And it was that accessory that the designers at CrownRing chose to be their inspiration for their Carlex collection. Thierry Bellisha, who along with Haimy Mann, founded CrownRing and Carlex, gave a great deal of thought to the new line.

“We wanted to create a really sleek wedding ring for men, who are 90 per cent of our customers, and I realized the one piece of jewelry a man wears with confidence is a wrist watch,” explains Bellisha.

One of the original base models does resemble the intricate layers and structures of a watch band, which resulted in a fresh new look for men’s wedding bands. There was no mistaking the masculine look and feel of the new Carlex collection. “Mechanical” and “Architectural” are ideas that sprang to mind. That was the look they wanted, and that was the look they achieved.

Carlex is dedicated to producing men’s wedding bands, although there has been a small foray into wedding rings intended for women. The line has expanded from the G1 first generation of 18k gold and platinum rings, to the new G2 line. The collection now runs from clean monochromatic lines to the addition of diamonds, different colors of gold and black cobalt. Carlex has successfully shown that they can keep their line fresh without losing the inherent masculine appeal of their high end designer wedding rings. All the men’s wedding bands are uniquely Carlex in appearance.

As an interesting aside, while men’s wedding bands become more prevalent, the watch, a formerly standard male accoutrement, had been phased out from the wardrobe of many men by time keeping cell phones.

But watches, although they can be luxury items of great beauty, are utilitarian jewelry. A wedding band is symbolic of an intense commitment in any man’s life, and can easily cross the line between functionality and art in stylish and quality ring designs such as those in the Carlex collection.
